Ethiopia, UAE sign MoU on Political Consultations

Foreign Minister Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu received Sheik Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the #UAE today (March 07, 2018), and the two ministers jointly addressed the 2nd Ethio-UAE Joint Ministerial Commission, during which the signing of MoU on Political Consultations was concluded.
On the occasion, Dr. Workneh noted that a new dynamism in strengthening cooperation have been witnessed since the two countries established a formal diplomatic relationship in 1973. The establishment of the Joint Ministerial Commission in 2015 and the subsequent meeting that was held in Abu Dhabi, he said, has culminated in the signing of six bilateral agreements and Memoranda of Understandings.

 
Dr. Workneh mentioned Ethiopia’s mix of opportunities, which he said, could attract more UAE investors. He also underlined the need to redouble efforts to further enhance engagements in trade, investment, tourism and people-to-people interactions. He said though UAE’s total investment in #Ethiopia reached 10.9 bln Birr with 135 active projects running to be meaningful examples of the relationship, much remains to be done especially in the sectors of real estate investment.

 

Sheik Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan expressed the importance of the Joint Ministerial Commission in laying the basis for further expansion of cooperation and underlined the will to further enhance Ethio-UAE cooperation in the fields of aviation, regional security, labor agreemnet and consular relations.

 

“Time has come to reflect more on the trust we have built and expanded our engagement on other sectors,” he added.
